Software Development Engineer II
The Expedia Group Experimentation Platform team is responsible for building the systems and tools used across the company to implement the scientific method at enterprise scale. Our customers include Product Managers, Engineers and Analysts who use our tools to design and validate experiments that affect the millions of travelers and partner organizations using our brands and platforms daily.
Understanding and measuring the outcome of changes within our products is fundamental to the success of our business. The Experimentation Platform, working closely with our analytics partners, ensures we follow good scientific practices in order to drive positive outcomes across our products and services.
What you'll do:
Collaborate with team members to co-develop and solve problems
Understand the importance of system and technology integration and the basic features and facilities involved in the integration process
Develop and test standard software applications and related programs and procedures to ensure they meet design requirements
Apply software design principles, data structures and/or design patterns and computer science fundamentals to write code that is clean, maintainable, optimized and modular with good naming conventions
Help coordinate stakeholder input and collaboration efforts when developing solutions to issues
Execute tasks and/or provide data to support implementation of holistic solutions that forge linkages between structure, people, process and technology
Apply formal training methods to current workload. You feel comfortable challenging authority/the status quo
Take advantage of opportunities to build new technical expertise in a specific engineering area
Seek knowledge from subject matter experts when needed
Report clearly on current work status. You ask challenging questions when empowered to do so
Who you are:
Bachelor's or Masters degree in a Technical field; or equivalent related professional experience
Equivalent experience includes:
Developing software in a team environment of at least 5 engineers (agile, version control, etc.)
Building and maintaining a software project/product in production environments in public/hybrid cloud infrastructure
Understanding of the fundamentals of microservice architecture and RESTful web services
Strength in Java, with some exposure to Node.js or React
Familiarity with Kafka, Spring, AWS, Hive, Spark, Docker, GraphQL or Elastic Search
Understanding of how large software projects fit together
Able to understand moderately complex systems
Ability to test and monitor your own code
Understanding of testing and monitoring tools
Ability to debug applications
Understanding of how teams’ goals fit a business need
