Position Overview:

As a Data Stewardship leader, you will help coordinate and build a stewardship community, define success criteria and contribute to the data stewardship strategy.  You will help identify and work closely with the data stewards along with our data governance group to define and ensure adherence to our data management policies and procedures.   You will also partner with our enterprise metadata group to ensure that the various stewards are contributing and verifying the metadata they own.  You will actively engage with data producers, data consumers, and engineers to ensure that data management strategy is converted into meaningful roadmaps and requirements.   During development you will act as a liaison between data consumers and engineers, make scoping decisions, and help the stewards in the data producer teams deliver consistent and actionable metadata to enable the implementation of solid data quality processes.  You will have an opportunity to acquire vast knowledge of our data ecosystem by working together with the data stewards from diverse global teams, spanning various business and technical functions.


Responsibilities:

·       Build the vision, strategy and roadmaps for the stewardship community that enforce Expedia’s data standards and ensure single source of truth and data integrity for reporting and decision making.  

·       Operate across the people, process, and technology pillars of Data Governance, provide for data transparency, make data more meaningful, ensure data accuracy, increase trust in data, and safeguard information assets.

·       Lead the process to identify, enlist and train the data stewards for the various domains. 

·       Lead reoccurring meetings to bring together data stewards with the intent of building a thriving data stewardship community which will help drive the strategic data management vision. 

·       Develop training and communication materials to educate the data community on standards and processes in the data management space. 

·       Own business outcomes and be responsible for hitting associated targets by improving, re-imagining, challenging status quo, and leading change.   

·       Define and manage implementation roadmaps to bring consumer and producer data assets to the required standard. 

·       Work across Expedia Group (data producers and consumers) to evangelize and apply data management practices to ensure data is being used in the most effective way to drive value creation.  

·       Serve as the bridge between those stakeholders and the central data governance office bringing the needs of your stakeholders and your expertise as a governance-minded steward to the forefront.

·       Evaluate issues in the governance of enterprise data, including problem definition, root cause analysis, and opportunity and solution recommendations.

·       Perform industry research to evolve strategy, policy, and process. 


Experience and Qualification:

·       8+ year experience in the data management and stewardship space.  

·       Solid understanding of data platforms and data strategies for large scale organizations. 

·       Experience with master data management and data governance practices and processes at-scale. 

·       Expertise in eliciting and documenting features & requirements from both business and technical teams. 

·       Direct experience working on data quality, data warehousing or other enterprise data and analytic management initiatives.

·       Experience implementing a data catalog and creating business glossary definitions which are clear and adhere to quality guidelines.

·       Successful track record navigating uncertainty and ambiguity in critical, enterprise-wide, multidisciplinary initiatives that meaningfully improve organizational effectiveness.

·       Strong strategic perspective and ability to think through big-picture issues coupled with excellent execution to get things done in a fast-paced, environment 

·       Strong communication skills, including the ability to convey sophisticated and abstract concepts to both technical and business teams. 

·       Ability to work across organizational boundaries and cross-functional stakeholders.

·       Strong time management skills and ability to prioritize and drive efforts independently.

·       Exceptional collaboration, business insight, and customer advocacy skills. 

·       Solid understanding of Agile Project management concepts (preferable) 

·       Bachelors or STEM Degree
