At Expedia Group, we are constantly pushing the limits of what software can do to serve travelers better and help them find their next trip. Travel is coming back strong in 2022, and we are leading the charge! 

This is a rare opportunity to join our central UX platform engineering team working on innovative tooling that optimizes the way designers and engineers across Expedia Group create user experiences. 

Some areas this team currently works on include: 

  • Building a platform to digitize design system component specs to make it easier to build, evolve and consume components consistently across web, iOS, and Android platforms 

  • Building and maintaining design tooling and Figma plugins to allow designers to work more efficiently. 

  • Creating a prototyping framework to enable proof of concepts to be quickly built, tested, and iterated upon. 

We are looking for an experienced Senior Software Engineer to help push this work forward. Some of your technical skills and experience may include NodeJS, JavaScript/TypeScript, GraphQL, ASTs, Figma plugin development, design and engineering tooling, CI/CD Pipelines and Automation. 

You have a good understanding of modern best practices; you have a growth mindset and enjoy working on ambiguous and challenging opportunities. You take a keen interest in understanding how designers and engineers work and proactively look for ways to make their lives easier through improved tooling and processes. 

You lead by example through your solid technical knowledge and high standards, and mentor and grow more junior engineers. 

You have a genuine "can-do" approach to work, are always eager to learn more and happily share knowledge with others both inside and outside your immediate team. 

What you will do: 

  • Create tooling for designers and engineers to optimize the way we create user experiences. 

  • Extend outside your direct organization and collaborate with peers across a senior-level organization. 

  • Partner with the business to understand how our technology stack is tied to business outcomes and our bottom line. 

  • Research and recommend frameworks and architectural/code design patterns. 

  • Identify areas of improvement in code and processes and propose and implement better solutions while educating others. 

  • Advocate for operational excellence (such as automated testing, establishing SLAs, programming for resiliency, and scalability). 

  • Advice on technical limitations of software design for products and provides alternative solutions. 

  • Strive for optimum organizational efficiency by applying systems thinking across boundaries and making recommendations about policies/processes. 

  • Take a whole systems approach to analyze issues and implement wholesome solutions by making linkages between structure, people, process, and technology. 

  • Recognize outdated methods of operation with current systems and design plans for updating them in a non-disruptive manner. 

  • Partner with UX to identify and develop solutions and bridge the gap between design and engineering. 

Who you are: 

  • Bachelor's degree in a related technical field; or equivalent related professional experience. 

  • Demonstrated experience leading and mentoring other engineers, focusing on quality over quantity. 

  • Experience collaborating with designers through the complete design and development lifecycle from ideation to production release, maintenance, and monitoring. 

  • An impactful individual contributor who leads by example and drives technical design end to end in large and complex projects while mentoring other software engineers in the organization.  

  • Proficient in collaborating with Technical Leadership in the local organization, leading complex and vaguely defined projects, and stretching into team leadership skills based on current projects. 

  • Demonstrates strength in multiple technologies and languages.  

  • Rationalizes technology choices to technical and non-technical observers 

  • Experience guiding integrations across teams within the business unit. 

  • Understands highly sophisticated systems and crafts moderately complex systems. 

  • Solid understanding of testing and monitoring tools and technologies. 

  • Guides others in software design that is easily testable and observable. 

  • Understands how team goals fit overall business needs and suggests solutions and adjustments where needed.
