Software Development Engineer III

We optimize Metasearch campaigns, a marketing channel unique to the travel industry, by deploying millions of bids daily in these ad marketplaces to acquire traffic for our sites.
The Metasearch Bidding Operations team is embedded within the marketing channel and sits at the critical intersection of data scientists and campaign managers. This vantage point allows us to proactively leverage technology to maximize the return on our millions of dollars in marketing spend. We have a large, diversified portfolio of marketing partners and have historically invested heavily in the top few. Now we are looking to grow our business by adding focus to emerging partners. You will help us do this by extending our existing capabilities to our entire portfolio and building new capabilities to capture the momentum of these growing facets of the industry.
You will be a founding member of this pod and report to the Director of Bidding Operations. As an SDE III, you will play a leadership role in the team by mentoring junior team-members, reviewing their work, and directing their day-to-day tasks. What you'll do:
Develop expertise in the performance marketing domain, applications, and data structures allowing you to bring the Metasearch portfolio to technical parity and extend our capabilities
Build and extend applications, APIs, and pipelines that achieve business goals in a scalable, reusable way in order to contribute capabilities back to our in-house platform
Effectively apply knowledge of software design principles, data structures and computer science fundamentals to write code that is clean, maintainable, optimized, and modular
Use a whole systems approach to analyzing issues by ensuring all components (structure, people, process, and technology) are identified and accounted for
Recommend advancements, innovations, and changes in technologies
Proactively team up with peers across the organization (Data Science, Engineering, Campaign Management, and others) to build an understanding of cross dependencies and shared problem solving
Actively share knowledge mentor junior team members to increase team impact and effectiveness
Continually seek new technical skills and recognize areas of inefficiency in code or systems operation and offer suggestions for improvements
Who you are:
5 to 7 years of experience in software development with 2+ years mentoring team members
Bachelor's or Master's degree in a related technical field; or equivalent related professional experience
Fluent in Python; familiarity with other languages a plus. Very strong in Spark/PySpark and SQL; demonstrated mastery of object oriented programming.
Built and maintained multiple applications or APIs in a production environment (unit & integration tests, bug fixing, troubleshooting, monitoring, etc.); experience developing APIs is a plus
You are able to balance a growth hacking, iterative approach with working in an agile environment with product and program management support
Can make independent decisions within the scope of your project and defend them with data and business context
You understand how to design moderately complex systems including tests and your software design is easily testable and observable
Experience working closely with Analysts, Data Scientists, and other end-users of your applications iterating to a better joint outcome
