Director, Marketplace and Partner Product Economics

The Expedia Group Product Analytics team is searching for a director of marketplace and partner product economics. You will lead the team building the scientific products and processes to measure and drive the long-term flywheel for the Expedia marketplace, which includes all aspects of Expedia’s business, from search ads to the products that help our partners manage their inventory on Expedia. You will own the development of long-term value methods to scientifically measure, predict, and forecast value lift for Expedia customers, and the systems to report results. You will partner cross-functionally with senior leaders across the company to ensure EG leverages the right tools and data to make decisions that impact all our travelers. This is a new, critical role whose vision and leadership will have broad impact on business priorities across EG.

The ideal candidate will have experience developing and executing on strategic roadmaps, and for building the team of experts that executes them. They will be able to take on a player-coach role initially, providing hands-on contributions as they build capacity on their team. They will have experience attracting and retaining talent of the highest caliber.

This role can be located in Seattle, Austin, or Chicago.

What you'll do :

  • You will develop a strategic roadmap to deliver scientific solutions on long-term value prediction and related areas.

  • You will coordinate and lead senior individual contributors and managers and drive the development of a diverse and high-quality talent pipeline.

  • You will engage with the research community and apply concepts to make recommendations to current projects.

  • You will build or supervise end-to-end design of models based on a detailed understanding of business requirements, including general approach, choice of algorithm and data sources.

  • You will provide guidance and mentorship on proper model selection, regularization and evaluation to be able to develop robust solutions.

  • You will adapt/modify existing models/techniques.

  • You will communicate across various levels of the organization influencing partners and Senior Leaders with audience appropriate messages and relevant information. This includes leading the creation of content that will be used internally and externally.

  • You will mentor employees by providing advice and recommendations based on experience and own learnings. This includes sharing domain and industry knowledge between cross-functional teams.

  • You will use Python, Scala or R, or any other major ML programming language.


Who you are :

  • Graduate degree (Ph.D. preferred) in Economics, Statistics, or a closely related field.

  • Strong leadership experience with clear examples of driving a high-performance culture, mentoring and coaching employees and driving values, efforts and culture across the team and the broader organization.

  • Experience in application in an industrial or industry-aligned academic setting and crafting robust solutions.

  • Experienced driving a multi-year roadmap and/or program with demonstrable success.

  • Able to make recommendations to functional leadership and cross-functional partners on operational policies, processes and tools.

  • Experience with production grade data and machine learning pipelines.

  • Deep expertise in econometrics, statistics, and causal inference.

  • Familiarity with supervised & unsupervised ML methods and forecasting.

  • Expertise in more than one major ML programming language (Python, R, Scala…).

  • Experience and Qualification: Ph.D. in economics, statistics, or a closely related quantitative discipline
