Data Analyst III/ Engineer
Have you ever had the opportunity to impact the lives of millions of people in a meaningful way and help them strengthen connections, broaden horizons, and bridge divides? That is what we do here at Expedia Group, the world’s largest travel platform. We believe travel is a force for good, and we power global travel for everyone, everywhere.
At the heart of this are the many systems and services that power the platform. The Services Enablement Analytics and Solutions (SEAS) team collects vital data from Expedia Group’s platforms and services. We produce reports and metrics that foster transparency and visibility and enable leadership to make business-critical decisions effectively.
As the Data Analyst supporting SEAS teams and their stakeholders, you will work with leadership and stakeholders and our data engineers and BI analysts to understand the data’s stories and ensure the metrics and reports we produce are exceptional. This is a hybrid role – part data modeling, part stakeholder engagement, part prototyping, and part technical leadership – perfect for someone interested in data analysis, expanding into the data engineering space, and high-visibility interactions with customers. If you have a solid analytical focus, the ability to research, model, and visualize data, and the business acumen to work with our customers and leadership at all levels, we want to speak with you!
What you’ll do:
Work closely with product managers and business partners to understand business objectives and share what we can and cannot achieve with our data sets, and identify new data sources as needed
Build domain and business knowledge to understand business challenges and offer data interpretation and insights within the partner’s business operations
Partner with business and product teams to gather and translate business and functional requirements to data visualizations – including data requirements, data dictionaries, database schema, and presentation layer requirements
Write high-quality SQL code/scripts to retrieve and analyze data from database tables (e.g., AWS Redshift, AWS Athena, MySQL)
Use business intelligence tools like Tableau and PowerBI to extract and manipulate data from AWS Redshift and other data sources
Work cross-functionally with technical teams to develop and deliver BI solutions and resolve technical, procedural, and operational issues
Partner with the Data Architects to analyze datasets and APIs, perform data modeling, write scripts, and support ongoing development and refinement of data architecture
Who you are:
4+ years experience in data mining and research with intermediate to sophisticated query skills (e.g., Hive, Teradata, MSSQL, MySQL, RedShift, PostGresDB2, or Oracle)
Bachelor’s Degree in Math, Engineering, Statistics, Computer Science or related technical field; or Equivalent related professional experience
Expertise in data warehouse technologies and principles, e.g., architecture, design, data acquisition, data delivery methodologies, or performance optimization in multi-terabyte environments
Passionate about letting the data tell its story via dashboards and reports (Tableau, PowerBI) and making data ready for consumption via APIs
Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills and can use creative approaches to solve complex problems
Proven customer service skills paired with excellent verbal and written communication skills
Enjoy working in a constantly evolving environment where you are self-motivated and flexible
