Senior Software Development Engineer

Our team seeks to build and refine the best platform that can meet our engineering needs and deploy seamlessly across multiple zones and regions. Today we operate thousands of instances and deploy many times per day without customer impact. We are the TLS team that operates the Lodging, Pricing and Availability service that powers millions of quotes per second.

As a Senior Software Engineer propose, prototype, design and implement various core components of the Pricing platform in partnership with teams over the world. Senior members of the team provide the thought leadership and technical expertise needed to overcome hard problems. Would have built and supported critical components of products/platforms at scale.

What you’ll do:

• Extend outside of the direct organization and collaborate with peers across a senior level organization

• Lead a community of practice and bring people together and share knowledge

• Partner with the business to have a clear understanding of how you own technology stack is tied to business outcomes and our bottom line

• Share domain and industry knowledge between multi-functional teams

• Serve as a guide to others by sharing and helping junior associates in their duties

• Fill in for peer engineering management as need arise

• Possess knowledge of features and facilities for integration, and communication among applications, databases, and technology platforms to bring together different components and form a fully functional solution to a business problem

• Act as a spokesperson for software design standard methodologies

• Identify areas of improvements within the code and suggests solutions

• Advocate for operational excellence (such as unit testing, establishing SLAs, programming for resiliency and scalability)

• Provide counsel on technical limitations of software design for products and provide alternative solutions

• Facilitate a partnership with different collaborators that have multifaceted perspectives to develop effective solutions to issues

• Strive for optimum organisational efficiency by applying systems thinking across boundaries and making recommendations about policies/ processes

• Take a whole systems approach to analyse issues and implement well-rounded solutions by ensuring that linkages between structure, people, process, and technology are made

• Spot outmoded methods of operation with current systems and design plans for redefining them in a non-disruptive manner

• Report on status of difficult or high-level projects to local tech leadership via written or oral means. Ensure documentation is complete

• Identify business problems at the project level and team level and design solutions that are easily testable and observable

Who you are:

• Bachelor's degree or Master’s degree in Technical field; or equivalent related professional experience

• Experience working in at least in 2 multi-quarter projects as a part of a decentralised team and project

• Experience formally mentoring at least 3 individuals and driving technical design end to end for several projects

• Experience contributing to engineering community through a blog post, open-source contribution, tech talks etc.

• Experience building large-scale cloud infrastructure applications or similar experience

• Lead sophisticated technical projects that drive alignment and consensus across multiple functional areas

• Excellent communicator with the ability to work well within a distributed team

• Dedicated to delivering high-quality, optimised code for a distributed architecture capable of servicing millions of requests per second

• Passionate about driving the future forward, creating inclusive team environments, and levelling up engineering teams

• Strong in multiple technologies or languages and is an authority in a given domain

• Rationalise technology choices to technical and non-technical observers making well defined technology choices
