As a Software Engineer, you will be the technical authority working on innovative, open-source technologies to help the team resolve problems of scale. As a member of the Landing Experience Team, be responsible for ensuring our travellers have a fabulous, relevant, and effortless experience through our Landing Pages such as Homepage, supporting and driving our business growth.

Our team is multi-functional composed of Product Managers, TPMs, Engineering Managers and Software Engineers. We believe in building high-quality software at scale and care about availability, scalability and systems resiliency. Our tech stack consists mostly of Kotlin and Scala microservices, Cassandra, Kafka, NodeJS and React. Motivated by emerging technologies you will have a real desire to be a part of a collaborative travel environment at an exciting time and with an innovative roadmap to help Vrbo and Expedia Group consolidate its position as a major player in the vacation rental world.

What you will do:

  • Develop and test applications and microservices for operational load, scale and high availability

  • Set up monitoring systems and automate manual operations

  • Be at the forefront of building EG’s next-generation platforms and services

  • Evolve existing services to support new business use cases

  • Build server-driven UI components with frontend engineers that meet design requirements

  • Write clean, modular code and help to refactor areas of inefficiency

  • Provide hands-on technical guidance and participate in architectural decision-making

  • Collaborate with teammates across the organization to deliver common goals

  • Share your engineering knowledge with the team to increase efficiency

  • Conduct design and peer code reviews

Technologies/tooling we use:

  • Java8/11, Kotlin, Scala, Spring Boot, OAuth, OIDC, Elasticsearch, Cassandra, Mongo DB, Redis Cache, SQL Server, S3, AWS, Docker, Dropwizard, Kafka, etc.

  • ES6+, Node.js, React, TypeScript, Hapi, Webpack, Git

  • Splunk, Datadog, Jenkins, Sentry

Who You Are:

  • Professional software engineering experience

  • Bachelor’s or master's in computer science or equivalent related professional experience

  • Experience in AWS, Kubernetes, Spring Cloud and Java/Kotlin is a must

  • Experience with relational (SQL) and non-relational databases

  • Experience with front end development tools Javascript/Node/React is optional

  • Experience with native mobile development is optional

  • Experience testing, automating and instrumenting your code

  • Evidence of working with object-oriented development and design patterns

  • Knowledge of event-driven architecture and tools like Kafka

  • Communication skills with the ability to work across multiple departments

  • Passionate problem solver with a focus on high-quality products
