Principal Software Engineer, Full Stack
The Platform Control Plane team is the driver responsible for the next generation Platform for Expedia Group. If you would like to help us build and deploy the best-in-class Technology Platform to power our two-sided marketplace (travelers and partners), please read on!
Our company has pushed for an “API First” approach for surfacing our Business Capabilities to our EG developer community. We will be building out the full-stack platform that allows API providers and API consumers to be productive in end-to-end flows from onboarding to transacting and evolving their technical and business successes. Our platform also supports advanced capabilities like no-code workflows and theme-able UIs beyond APIs.
In this role, you will lead the technical directions of the different user interfaces, front-end and command-line, down through the stacks of control plane, that serves different platform personas, from 1st-party to 3rd-party contributors. As a principal software engineer, you will be driving the thought leadership in this space to build a first-class approach to enable success of the platform.
What you'll do:
Proactively team up with peers across the organization to build an understanding of cross dependencies and shared problem-solving
Participate actively in communities of practice in EG to share and gain knowledge
Use software design principles, data structures and/or design patterns, and computer science fundamentals to write clean, efficient, maintainable, optimized and modular code with good naming conventions
Lead/Clarify code evolution in code reviews
Research and recommend Front End frameworks and architectural/code design patterns
Identify areas of improvement in code as well as processes, and proposes and implements better solutions while educating others
Advocate for operational excellence (such as automated testing, establishing SLAs, programming for resiliency and scalability)
Strive for optimum organizational efficiency by applying systems thinking across boundaries and making recommendations about policies/ processes
Think holistically to find opportunities around policies/ processes to increase efficiency across organizational boundaries
Partner with UX to identify and develop well-working solutions and to bridge the gap between design and engineering
Who you are:
A problem solver and UI architect who explores how user interface and tooling can be a game-changer in effective platform adoption and buildout
Expert knowledge of full-stack technology stacks including Javascript, Typescript, React.js, Webpack, HTML5, CSS, Nodejs as well as Kotlin, Spring Boot
Able to design software that is easily testable and observable
Ability to test, monitor, debug, fix issues within established SLAs, using testing and monitoring tools
Experience with REST APIs, Kubernetes and NoSQL technologies
Experience in API Design and Domain-Driven Development, knowledge of data exchange formats like Protobuf, GraphQL and Avro would be phenomenal
Bachelor’s in Computer Science or related field; or equivalent related professional experience
