Sr. Data Engineering Manager 

The online travel market is a $2 trillion industry that never stands still. Expedia Global Payments team (EGP) provides and operates software solutions that enable payment processing between Expedia and its network of customers and partners. This includes payment methods that Expedia brands offer to customers around the world and the payment options that Expedia uses to support effective relationships with partners and suppliers. In this role you will be a part of the Payments Data Engineering team and play a significant role in advancing Expedia’s analytics capabilities. We are looking for a driven, dynamic individual with a proven track record of developing Big Data solutions. The ideal candidate will have a solid experience developing modern data solutions in Amazon Web Services, leadership experience, and have a solid understanding of traditional data warehousing paradigms. 

 

What you’ll do: 
In this role we will expect: 

  • Guide and coach, a team to successfully deliver on lofty goals with speed and quality 

  • Owner of the scrum process, team delivery, and SDLC 

  • Advocate for operational excellence (such as unit testing, establishing SLOs and SLAs, programming for resiliency and scalability, data quality checks) 

  • Provide ongoing, real-time feedback to engineers on your team to promote their growth; Partner with program managers to collect feedback and manage team progress toward goals 

  • Communicate clearly to product managers, partners and engineers to remove ambiguity from larger projects; Provide high level engineering estimates 

  • Collaborate with architects and engineers in defining intelligent solutions that incorporate data insights as well as your technical perspective in furthering the product and business 

  • Cross organizational boundaries (brands, divisions) to collaborate with other technology teams to solve complex, integrated problems 

Who you are: 

  • Great leaders come from many backgrounds, but here's an idea of what you should bring to our team 

  • 8+ years software development experience in enterprise software 

  • Proven experience in leadership and team building 

  • The utmost passion for both technology and leadership 

  • BS degree in Computer Science or related technical field or equivalent related professional experience 

  • Experience in working in Business Intelligence Projects from end to end 

  • Strong knowledge of Scala, Python or Java with expertise in one language 

  • Software development experience in real time distributed computing with Storm, Kafka 

  • Experience of working in AWS Cloud.  

  • Expertise in agile software development methodologies and their adoption within teams 

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills - able to translate between technical and business group, bring forward a vision or opinion 

  • Ability to lead multiple tasks and projects simultaneously, prioritize decisions and tasks effectively, and thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment 

  • Understanding of trade-offs of architectural patterns and comfort in recommending approaches and associated technology choices
