Senior Software Development Engineer

The Ordering Services team has an opening for a Senior Software Development Engineer as part of our Core Transactional Services team. The online travel market is a $2 trillion industry that never stands still. This 200-person organization operating between Expedia's Global Brands, Supply Offerings, and Finance Teams, is the transactional heartbeat of Expedia Group. This team works on Order and Fulfillment Orchestration, Trip Management, and Coupons System. Through our technology and operations infrastructure, we handle billions of dollars of bookings, collections, and payments every month. This role will primarily focus on the Core Transaction Platform, one of the platforms operated by Ordering Services.

What you'll do:

  •  Assume an active role in the evolution of this platform, including design and development

  • Join an upbeat environment where each team member's contribution is important Develop in an environment where the definition of done includes unit testing, code review, and integration testing

  • Utilize well-adapted development methodology for continuous evolution and optimization for the assigned projects

  • You bring 5+ years’ full-stack software experience across multiple technologies, languages, and frameworks

  • Draw on experience to lead technical designs and implementation of highly scalable and adaptable systems

  • Mentor junior developers and help drive engineering maturity (2+ years)

  • Write code utilizing expert-level skills in object-oriented design, data structures, algorithm, and system-level programming (including multi-threaded programming)

  • Performance test and load test services you write and optimize for performance and scalability

  • Practice resilience engineering for every component you build and evangelize resilience within the team

Who you are:

  • You have 7+ years of software development experience on the Web and Micro Services/API, and Cloud technologies

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Computing-related subject area; or equivalent related professional experience

  • Writing clean and sophisticated technical designs are part of your DNA, and you have the ability to instill the same drive in others, have critical thinking, and communicate them to your peers

  • Proficiency in Java or other Object-Oriented Language

  • Experience working with AWS/Cloud infrastructure, NoSQL databases will be a plus

  • Experience building transactional middleware in Java

  • Diverse background with data storage technologies (RDBMS, NoSQL, Document Store, in-memory key/value, search systems)

  • Cloud experience on AWS/Hybrid Cloud

  • Expert-level knowledge of Spring frameworks

  • Experience using git in a shared setting

  • Contributions to open-source projects
