Senior Manager, Software Development Engineering

We are searching for a top-notch Senior Engineering Manager who will drive key deliveries from the idea phase all the way through requirements definition, analysis, technical specifications, development, and product delivery. This is a highly visible role that requires both business knowledge for working with senior management and technical depth for removing development roadblocks. 

As a Senior Engineering Manager, you will provide coaching and leadership for a group of engineers in teams focused on building and delivering resilient, scalable microservices and APIs for self-service and platform business workflows available for any brand or partners. You will be challenged to work in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment consisting of highly matrixed, cross-geo teams who partner with global technology teams across Expedia. With your experience, technical skill-set, and passion for coaching and motivating others, you and your team will create the components and experiences that enable our vision of a self-service and platform skills ecosystem for Expedia, driving significant business benefits. 

What you’ll do: 

  • Guide and coach, a team to successfully deliver on lofty goals with speed and quality 

  • Promote development of maintainable and thoroughly tested code 

  • Ensure your team is following coding standards and engineering excellence practices 

  • Provide ongoing, real-time feedback to engineers on your team to promote their growth; Partner with program managers to collect feedback and manage team progress toward goals 

  • Communicate clearly to product managers, partners, and engineers to remove ambiguity from larger projects; Provide high level engineering estimates 

  • Collaborate with architects and engineers in defining scalable solutions that incorporate data insights as well as your technical perspective in furthering the product and business 

  • Cross organizational boundaries (brands, divisions) to collaborate with other technology teams to solve complex, integrated problems 

Who you are: 

  • 8+ years software development experience in enterprise software 

  • 3+ years of people management experience, leading a software engineering team 

  • Proven experience in leadership and team building 

  • The utmost passion for both technology and leadership 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related technical field; or equivalent related professional experience 

  • Experience in delivering end to end software services 

  • Strong knowledge of Java, Kotlin, Scala or Python with expertise in one language 

  • Strong knowledge of backend API development 

  • Experience of working in AWS Cloud 

  • Expertise in agile software development methodologies and their adoption within teams 

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills - able to translate between technical and business group, bring forward a vision or opinion 

  • Ability to lead multiple tasks and projects simultaneously, prioritize decisions and tasks effectively, and thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment 

  • Understanding of trade-offs of architectural patterns and comfort in recommending approaches and associated technology choices
