Principal/Distinguished Experience Architect

As a Principal/Distinguished Experience Architect for our XD (Experience Design) organization, you'll help us achieve that mission by defining the areas of our product portfolio that need to come together and developing a strategic plan and an experience roadmap to make the work happen harmoniously, and at scale.

Typically focused on a large, high-visibility area of the Expedia Group platform, our Experience Architects partner with leaders across the company to set the multi-year strategy and envision the output for key customer-experience initiatives.  To succeed in this role, you’ll need to influence and bring together cross-disciplinary teams to frame customer challenges, set shared experience goals, and achieve measurable results.

What you’ll do:  

  • Partner with senior leaders across Expedia Group to drive innovation and customer value, building the vision and execution plans for end-to-end experiences

  • Develop the multi-year blueprint for experience initiatives, and partner with Design leads to clarify goals and maintain a unified vision across "lanes" of the experience

  • Develop and articulate the methods and approaches used by XD and internal partners for framing and solving customer-experience challenges

  • Create strategic design frameworks and artifacts (e.g., customer journeys, strategy decks, experience architectures), and mentor Designers, Researchers, Content Strategists, and others to ensure adoption 

  • Contribute to an organizational environment that champions innovation, customer-centricity, and the collaborative development of ideas

  • Contribute subject-matter expertise to identify which design processes should be standardized and which should differ

  • Coordinate team/divisional alignment on customer and business goals, negotiating tough tradeoffs to ensure the end-to-end experience is meaningful, impactful, and coherent

  • Uphold the bar for design craft and quality in partnership with XD leadership

  • Be a leading voice in human-centered design both inside and outside of the company

Who you are:  

  • 10+ years of proven experience leading Experience Design, Design Consulting, or UX Architecture efforts across the product development cycle

  • Web and mobile experience on matrixed teams (particularly in a multi-product platform) desirable

  • Demonstrated expertise in Design Strategy and adjacent technical practices (e.g., Interaction Design, Information Architecture, Content Strategy, User Research)  

  • Deep understanding of modern experience design practices, including accessibility and inclusive design

  • Proven ability to use storytelling to connect strategy decisions to insights gathered from data, research, and other technical domains

  • Highly collaborative and curious, with a beginner's mentality and first-principles approach to problem-solving 

  • Proven thought and domain leadership
