VP, Design Strategy

As the VP of Design Strategy for our Experience Design organization, you'll help us achieve that mission by establishing and leading a team to define, accelerate, and deliver measurable value around Expedia's human-centered transformation.
Design Strategists at Expedia Group establish and evangelize new methods for approaching innovation and crafting new experiences with customers. They are leaders in uncovering and publishing new advancements in emerging technology and customer behavior. They define what success looks like and provide mechanisms for measuring the work.
Under your leadership, the XD Design Strategy practice will drive discovery and experience strategy tracks for larger problem spaces across Expedia Group. In partnership with Product Managers, Engineers, Designers, Researchers, Analysts, and other functions, your team will take a systemic view to identify challenges, uncover new experiences and business opportunities, and apply a holistic perspective.
What you’ll do:
Establish and lead the Design Strategy practice for our XD (Experience Design) organization with a focus on business strategy and human-centered design.
Partner with a team of senior leaders across Experience Design, Service Design, Content Design, and Research to define, build, and drive compelling customer-experience visions and strategies while establishing success metrics at the organization level.
Build an organizational culture that champions innovation through creative ambition and collaborative development of ideas.
Lead collaborative efforts with key leadership partners and contribute subject-matter expertise to identify which processes should be standardized and which should differ.
Contribute to major evolutions of experience strategy and capabilities at the platform level.
Develop new products and services that help guide Expedia Group on its human-centered transformation.
Partner with Product leaders to prioritize and execute the education and activation roadmap for human-centered design (HCD).
Partner with Engineers, Designers, Product Managers, and Researchers to identify and create high-impact changes and programs across all Expedia Group products.
Uphold the bar for design craft and quality by seeking input from other practice leaders on team design reviews and individual performance reviews.
Be a leading voice on Design Strategy and human-centered design for all of Expedia Group.
Who you are (Skills & Experience):
10+ years of proven experience leading Experience Design or Design Strategy teams. Experience leading matrixed teams in a digital product/service and platform environment desirable.
Deep understanding of modern experience design practices, including accessibility and inclusive design.
Proven ability to use storytelling to explain insights gathered from data, research, and other technical domains.
Highly collaborative and curious, with a beginner's mentality and first-principles approach to problem-solving.
History of developing cohesive, compelling strategic visions for experience, product, and service challenges.
Proven thought and domain leadership.
