Expedia Group’s Editorial & Entertainment division drives the strategic direction and creative execution for how our brands express themselves through editorial and entertainment content across all customer touchpoints— our sites, apps, and outbound communications —as well as in paid, owned, and earned channels. We work across all EG brands and all key markets globally.

As Creative Director of Editorial your primary focus will be on text- and image-driven editorial content, everything from short-form and news-driven content to engage travelers in social channels to authoritative guides that help travelers make better decisions about destinations and experiences to photo essays and written narratives that tell immersive stories and bring the wonder and excitement of travel to life. While most of our content is designed for digital publishing and distribution, we also envision creating print products, real-world installations, and more.

E&E is a newly established organization within Expedia Group, and you will be one of the first members of a small group of experienced and entrepreneurial experts who will drive this work end-to-end, from creative ideation through hands-on execution, publishing, and distribution. While doing breakthrough creative work you’ll also define editorial best practices, evangelize for the role of editorial content in our business and creative strategies, determine what success looks like, and build support for further growth of the team.

What you’ll do:

  • Develop comprehensive brand editorial content strategies and plans as well as specific editorial concepts that are both strategically sound and creatively exciting, based on our brands’ value propositions, business objectives, and positioning

  • Build support for securing resources to execute brand editorial strategies and specific editorial concepts through documents and presentations that bring those ideas to life

  • Execute editorial concepts, leveraging both in-house and external resources, with an emphasis on driving best-in-class work that is distinctive and memorable for consumers

  • Partner with brand marketing and creative strategy as well as channel owners (e.g., CRM, social) to develop and execute editorial work that supports campaigns or other activities

  • Working with partners in Product and UX, Social & PR, Growth Marketing, Media, SEO, and CRM, develop and implement publishing and distribution plans for editorial content, ensuring timely and effective ways for it to reach its intended audiences

  • Identify opportunities for editorial content partnerships and licensing, assess viability of options, lead conversations that develop ideas into agreements, and manage ongoing relationships with content partners

  • Develop and implement model for editorial content production—via internal resources, external contributors, vendors, etc.—and build and manage relationships with all types of content-creation partners

  • Create operational processes needed for the production, publishing, and distribution of editorial content, partnering across the organization to ensure we have the tools and processes in place to support timely and efficient functioning

  • Commission, edit and, when appropriate, write or otherwise create content, ensuring all our execution is at the highest level

  • Partner with Editorial & Entertainment colleagues on generating content ideas across all media types, including video, TV/film, and audio

  • Define success metrics for editorial content and partner with Analytics and others to ensure we can measure and optimize for performance

Who you are:

  • 10+ years’ experience creating and managing the creation of editorial content in media, agency, or branded content environments. Some traditional journalism/publishing experience preferred. Some experience creating content for commercial (non-media) brands is helpful but not required

  • Excellent command of written language and a strong eye for visual presentation (images and design) that transcends the norm; some experience as a text editor of others’ writing is preferred

  • A passion for travel and travel content with a point of view on what can best inspire, entertain, inform, and assist travelers; some experience creating content in the travel vertical preferred but not required

  • A global network of writers, photographers, influencers, and experts across a variety of passion points (e.g., food, art, music, fashion) with whom you collaborate to inform and create content

  • Experience with digital publishing and its tools (e.g., CMS) and requirements (e.g., SEO)

  • Experience building and managing teams. Although this role will not have immediate direct reports, as the team grows this role would take on people management

  • Fluency with PowerPoint/Keynote and the ability to build and present decks that effectively sell creative ideas

  • Ability to wear an operational hat as well as a creative one, keeping an eye on processes, budgets, legal requirements, etc.

  • Comfort with starting something new from the ground up and working fluidly across a matrixed organization in the building phase
