Software Development Engineer III - Affiliates

Expedia Group is seeking a motivated engineer with a passion for technology, problem solving, and out-of-the-box thinking to be part of our Retail Partnerships Team. As a Software Development Engineer, you will be part of an agile development team with lots of big-data processing experience and plenty of full-stack skills for producing great customer experiences.

Expedia Group’s Retail Partnerships team is responsible for building accelerators, products, and processes that power the affiliate marketing platform for all of Expedia Group's brands.

What you’ll do:

  • Your primary responsibility will be to conceptualize, design, develop, document and manage software systems supporting the team’s retail affiliate platform

  • Proactively reach out to meet peers across environments and collaborate to solve complex and outstanding problems of scale

  • Collaborate with the team in coding, analysis and large-scale system design

  • Develop high quality, distributed and scalable software while growing your skills

  • Build new technical expertise in a specific engineering area

  • Learn best practices and have an opportunity to grow to the next level

  • Deliver systems and technological integration

  • You understand the importance of system and technology integration and the basic features and facilities involved in the integration process

  • Develop and test standard software applications and related programs and procedures to ensure they meet design requirements

  • Apply software design principles, data structures and/or design patterns and computer science fundamentals to write code that is clean, maintainable, optimized and modular with good naming conventions

  • Apply knowledge of database design to solve data requirements

  • Help coordinate stakeholder input and collaboration efforts when developing solutions to issues

  • Think broadly and understand how, why and when policies/processes are standardized and when they differ across the organization

  • Execute tasks and/or provide data to support implementation of holistic solutions that forge linkages between structure, people, processes and technology

  • Apply formal training methods to current workload. You feel comfortable challenging authority/the status quo

  • Technical Communication/Presentation

  • You report clearly on current work status and ask challenging questions when empowered to do so

  • Continuous Delivery - Automate application deployments, detect and repair problems in deployments

  • Debug production and pre-production environments

  • Have the ability to explore/use a wide variety of technologies and tools

  • Take ownership of high stress scenarios by remaining calm, employing critical thinking and data driven decision-making practices

  • Conduct on-call duties and be a part of the rotation

Who you are:

  • 4+ years experience in software development

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in related technical field; or Equivalent related professional experience

  • Experience in one or more of: Java and Java Frameworks, React.js, Node, GraphQL

  • Familiar with MVC framework and web services (REST)

  • Understanding of Object-Oriented Programming concepts, data structure, algorithms, and system level programming (including multi-threaded programming)

  • Ability to test and monitor your own code

  • Ability to debug applications

  • Understanding of testing and monitoring tools

  • Exposure to cloud computing and Amazon Web Services (AWS)

  • Familiar with Continuous Integration tools (Jenkins or similar)

  • Exposure to Unix/Linux systems is a plus

  • Understanding of Agile, Scrum, Kanban or other development processes and methodologies
