Lead Content Designer 

At Expedia Group, our mission is to power global travel for everyone, everywhere. As a Lead Content Designer on our XD (Experience Design) team, you will help us achieve that mission by defining the tone, structure, and narrative flow of content across Expedia’s product experiences.

Work in a multidisciplinary design pod that includes researchers, product designers, and fellow content strategists, and your work will extend from defining the future state of our experiences (including the content architecture) to contributing standards and conventions to our platform design system.

Drawing insights from user research, product teardowns, and other sources, will identify, investigate, and craft solutions to content-design problems across the customer journey, and participate in lab testing that enables us to see the impact of your work on the products we build.

What you’ll do:

Reporting into our centralized Content Strategy practice, lead the content design — the plan for content, as well as the approach to content design — for one or more product areas. As a leading voice in content strategy and content design, you'll also serve as an advocate and role model for our junior team members.

  • Partner with fellow designers to define the edges, depths, and proposed solutions for customer and business problems

  • Use human-centered design methods to co-create and test solutions that address real customer challenges

  • Employ content modeling and related techniques, and partner with engineers and CMS teams to resolve infrastructural content challenges

  • Apply concepts around UI frameworks, modularity, localization, and reuse to craft content solutions that scale

  • Team with product managers and researchers to initiate and drive content tests that measurably improve the customer experience

  • Partner across the enterprise to improve accessibility, inclusion, readability, and translatability of product content

  • Govern and make decisions about content in our style guide and platform system

Who you are:

We realize that content strategy and content design are always evolving, and we know that no two people enter this field through the same path. We are not expecting a specialist in everything listed here, but we do ask for expertise in whichever methods you apply. We're also looking for people who will contribute frameworks to our growing team and our design system, so we're excited to see how you scale your thinking.

  • Bachelor's degree or or equivalent related professional experience, as well as experience in core skills such as UX Writing, Content Audits and Analysis, Content Mapping and Modeling, Content Planning and Sourcing, Conversational Design, Information Architecture, and Storytelling. (This is not a content marketing role.)

  • Ability to audit, analyze, structure, design, and present content solutions independently using established frameworks

  • Understanding of human-centered design (HCD) practices, and a point of view about content's role in the design process

  • A thoughtful, empathetic, and inclusive approach that meets every user where they are

  • Ability to collaborate with different practice areas — particularly those with approaches and perspectives different from your own — to generate effective solutions to user problems

  • Expertise in — and comfort with — facilitation, workshop design, and storytelling

  • A passion for travel and for our mission

  • A portfolio of shipped work that demonstrates skills and methods. We're especially interested in seeing examples of work you've done for Android and iOS apps, and if you have experience working in a platform or two-sided marketplace, it's a definite plus
