Expedia Group (EG) has developed the Travel Platform to power global travel for everyone, everywhere. As part of this, we have built a Conversation Platform that powers travel. This platform uses Machine Learning (ML) to automate the most complicated travel journeys by using Natural Language Understanding (NLU) to gauge the intent of our travelers.

What you’ll do: 

As Conversational Design Director:

  • You will drive best practices for problem framing and synthesis of customer and business insights 

  • You will practice, drive, and teach exemplary visual and interaction design practice and hold the design organization accountable to deliver high-quality experiences 

  • You will provide guidance when evaluating the impacts of a solution to ensure linkages between structure, process, and technology 

  • You will guide the team to develop and adapt design processes that facilitate high-quality design work 

  • You will identify both qualitative and quantitative insights of customer research and data and business analytics to drive design solutions 

  • You will guide the team and partners to remain focused on customer issues 

  • You will use storytelling and persuasion to create materials that connect vision, strategy, and action plans at the organizational level 

  • You will drive a culture of constructive design critique 

  • You will place individuals in roles and assignments that contribute to their personal and career development 

  • You will hold yourself and your team accountable for setting and meeting organizational objectives with success measured by the impact to our traveler experience 

  • You will identify and resolve issues that may impair the team's ability to meet strategic, financial, and technical goals 

  • You will help team members identify and build key relationships and networks inside and outside the organization   

Who you are:  

  • Bachelor's in Human-Computer Interaction, User Experience or related Design field or equivalent related professional experience 

  • Experience in leadership and management of a team in a multidisciplinary UX environment 

  • Track-record of hiring the brightest and most creative product designers 

  • Understands user experience design, research, and content strategy processes and practices to a level that enables strong collaboration with product and technology peers 

  • Subject matter expert and thought leader in conversational experiences and communication through all channels and input types
