Accessibility User Experience Designer III

Expedia Group's (EG’s) mission is to power global travel for everyone, everywhere and the Digital Accessibility team is vital to making this a reality. We are looking for a UX Designer III who has experience with and a passion for accessibility to join us on our journey.

We are a group of Accessibility Specialists who truly believe that creating accessible products benefits everyone, not just those with disabilities! We provide designers, engineers and program managers with the knowledge, support and guidance needed to design, implement, and deliver accessible experiences that everyone can enjoy. We develop and run training sessions, we share best practices, we carry out assessments to uncover areas for improvement, we run events to increase awareness, and we build communities where we can all learn from each other.

As a UX Designer on the team you will be responsible for driving accessibility across design teams, ensuring accessibility is considered at every stage of the design life cycle. This is an exciting time to join the team as we expand the breadth of product teams we work with to include all EG retail products (including key brands Expedia, and Vrbo), our partner facing tools and the internal tools that employees use every day. You will be vital to helping us achieve this goal!

What you will do:

  • Advise Product, Design and Engineering teams (iOS, Android, and Web) on how to create accessible experiences.

  • Develop and run training courses to help designers and other employees increase their knowledge of accessibility.

  • Influence the strategy for accessibility across UX by articulating a coherent vision based on clear, meaningful problem/opportunity statements.

  • Collaborate with teams with varied perspectives to find opportunities, establish shared goals, and design accessible solutions.

  • Establish measurable benchmarks to help improve the accessibility of products over time.

  • Actively contribute to the design system, regularly attend design reviews, provide accessibility feedback, and ensure it meets the needs of all our users.

  • Create clear and compelling materials and narratives explaining the role of accessibility within design using customer, business, or competitive insights.

  • Research standard methodologies & patterns, perform competitive evaluations and, gather insights through user studies.

  • Establish and implement accessibility guidelines, and standards related to designing and maintaining our digital applications.

  • Clearly communicate customer-centric goals when presenting work and tailor your communication to different people.

  • Work with teams across the company to ensure accessibility is considered every step of the way and is clearly defined in all design specs.

Who are you:

  • Bachelor's in Human-Computer Interaction, User Experience or related design field or equivalent related professional experience.

  • Strong in 2 core skills, capable in 2 others including Interaction/visual design, User research, Facilitation, Prototyping, Technical/Platform knowledge and UX writing.

  • Can demonstrate a critical understanding of Digital Accessibility including standards such as WCAG and know how to apply this knowledge when designing digital products.

  • A self-starter who can help define a direction and proactively drive initiatives forward.

  • An excellent communicator, able communicate a compelling rationale and narrative to peers and partners.
