Software Development Engineer II

United Kingdom - London

About the position:

We are looking for a Software Engineer, located in London, to join the Data Technology group within EPS who will craft, develop and own the next generation of data products. Our team consists of software, data, and platform engineers located across London (UK), Madrid (SP), Chicago (IL), Springfield (MO) and Bellevue (WA).

If you are someone with a growth mentality who loves solving sophisticated and meaningful problems, come join us on this exciting journey!

You will help make sense of petabytes of Data while building, supporting, and delivering analytics data products. The data teams are placed at the core of Business, Analytics, and Data Science operations, facilitating decision-making by providing the right data, at the right time, to the right people or system.

Your responsibilities:

  • Working with different teams to develop highly scalable, highly available, secure, and reliable analytics APIs which would be used by applications and users worldwide.
  • Develop applications using the right development patterns and continuous deployment/integration practices.
  • Collaborate with upstream system architects, product managers, developers, data scientists, and end-users to support and deliver a trustworthy data product.
  • Participate with a DevOps mentality (you build it, you run it) by owning the CI/CD processes of your applications.
  • Breakdown requirements, simplify architectures, and collaborate with other business teams to deliver intelligent data solutions in line with defined objectives and results.
  • Identify application performance and data challenges, suggesting code and architecture improvements.
  • Seek opportunities to bring sophisticated analytical techniques and solutions to new data products.
  • Cooperate in an agile environment to lead change and keep us current with the latest technologies.

Your background:

  • You are a polyglot developer who can switch programming styles based on the language you use (e.g Python, Scala, Java, Golang, Kotlin, Javascript). You start your day by adding a feature to a Java microservice and finish the day cleaning up a Python script.
  • You love the sight of a long list of automated test suites going green.
  • You value strong pull request reviews, understand when to stand your ground and when to let go.
  • You value automated CICD processes and cringe hearing about manual deployments.
  • You know what a CAP theorem is and show an understanding of database technologies, RDBMS or NoSQL.
  • Strong experience with the AWS services, such as Lambda, S3, DynamoDB, EC2, ELB, Cloud Formation, API Gateway, etc.
  • Proven experience working on microservice-based architectures and developing GraphQL or RESTful APIs.
  • A keen interest in data engineering.
  • You have knowledge of cloud infrastructure automation tools such as CloudFormation and Docker.
  • Experience producing tested, secure, resilient, and well-documented applications.
