Brand Design Director, Expedia
The Brand Design Director for Expedia will guide, develop, and evolve our brand. You will lead internal and partner organizations through the creative process — bringing our identity to life through cohesive storytelling across all touchpoints, including our brand marketing, social channels, and product experiences.
This role will work closely with our Head of Design, Head of Marketing, and our Marketing and Design Leadership Teams to define new directions and raise the bar for both our practice and brand experience. You will be responsible for driving cross-org design exercises and critiques, evolving our brand expression, our identity system, and our storytelling across product and brand experiences.
People will look to you to help set the bar for quality and innovation, as well as shape the ambitions of the collective Expedia CX group. You are hands-on, and equally analytical and conceptual. A balanced understanding of strategy, usability, interaction, brand, and visual design is a must.
What you’ll do:
Take a hands-on approach to the direction, development, standards, and documentation of our identity, inclusive of personality, voice and tone, and visual language
Oversee the development of brand storytelling in Expedia’s products, combining strategy, interactive and brand design, creative content and technology
Guide and direct delivery of cohesive, end-to-end experiences, ranging from small, signature travel moments to holistic scales
Partner with marketing, product, design, and technology leaders to build the support and investment in capabilities that bring life to our identity and convey the value of brand within a business context
Scale standards globally within Expedia’s design system, informing new patterns and streamlining platform adoption
Collaborate with Brand Marketing Creative Director and Customer Experiences leaders to establish effective process, methods, and culture for the continuous development of our brand identity with fellow design and marketing leaders
Work with Campaign and Brand Marketing Creative Director partner and beyond to share best practices and encourage the breakthrough approaches to campaigns across the Expedia brand
Lead, coach, inspire and motivate the creation and delivery of truly remarkable, influential and impactful work – inclusive of our freelance and agency partners
Encourage state-of-the-art techniques and thought leadership activities to stimulate professional development and inspiration within the team
Represent the creative discipline in overall CX leadership and promote positive culture in the studio
Who you are:
Exceptional hands-on design skills: visual design, motion graphics, environmental graphics, illustration, typography, concept development and art direction
Experience and ability to succeed in a deadline-oriented, fast-paced environment
Strategic, critical thinker, and have strong creative direction skills
Excel at creating environments that motivate and inspire people to do their best work
Able to facilitate the right balance between flexibility and scale
You are relentlessly user-focused
You have 5+ years of Creative Direction experience, experience in Product Design leadership preferred
You are extraordinarily skilled in both written and spoken communication
Your best work is done in a highly collaborative way
You can find a meaningful balance when optimizing for speed, quality, and doing risky, but interesting work
10+ years in digital product design
Familiar working within the scale and implementation of digital design systems
Deeply familiar with the needs of designers, researchers, and writers
A compelling portfolio of distinctive work that spans brand, product/service design, and storytelling
Broad cultural reference points
Fearless, boundlessly creative and relentlessly attentive to detail
