Senior Software Development Engineer

The Travel Partners Group (TPG) is a B2B division responsible for ensuring travelers find the best of the world’s travel suppliers on Expedia Group websites.  We are committed to helping our supply partners – hotels, vacation rentals, airlines, rental car companies, activity providers, cruise lines and more – achieve their business goals.

The TPG Tech Platform team are responsible for providing common platform capabilities, services, toolkits, infrastructures, and best practices that power TPG development community. We continuously raise the bar on our engineering and operational practices. Our services are key to running the business, and we are on the critical path for Expedia API first initiative by providing framework and infrastructure in TPG. 

What you’ll do:

  • You will research and recommend frameworks and architectural/code design patterns

  • You will act as a spokesperson for software design best practices

  • You will identify areas of improvements within the code and suggests solutions

  • You will advocate for operational excellence (such as unit testing, establishing SLAs, programming for resiliency and scalability)

  • You will advise on technical limitations of software design for products and provide alternative solutions

  • You will share domain and industry knowledge between cross-functional teams

  • You will serve as a guide to others by sharing and helping junior associates in their duties

  • You will possess knowledge of features and facilities for integration, and communication among applications, databases, and technology platforms to bring together different components and form a fully functional solution to a business problem

  • You will extend outside of direct organization and collaborate with peers across a senior level organization

  • You will facilitate collaboration with different stakeholders with varied perspectives to develop effective solutions to issues

  • You will strive for optimum organizational efficiency by applying systems thinking across boundaries and making recommendations about policies/ processes

  • You can spot outmoded methods of operation with current systems and design plans for disrupting them in a non-disruptive manner

  • You will report on status of difficult or high-level projects to local tech leadership via written or oral means. Ensure documentation is complete

Who you are:

  • Bachelor's degree or Master's in a related Technical field; or equivalent related professional experience

  • Strong in multiple technologies or languages and is an expert in Java or Node.js

  • Proficient building Restful APIs, GraphQL APIs, or gRPC APIs

  • Experience working with AWS/Cloud infrastructure

  • Able to understand highly complex systems and design moderately complex systems

  • Able to justify technology choices to technical and non-technical observers making well defined technology choices

  • Able to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner

  • Able to establish operational excellence metrics at the team level

  • Strong understanding of how team goals fit a business need

  • Guiding integrations across teams within business unit

  • Guiding others in design of software that is easily testable and observable

  • Experience working in at least in 2 multi-quarter projects as a part of a decentralized team and project

  • Experience formally mentoring at least 3 individuals and driving technical design end to end for at least 3 projects

  • Experience contributing to engineering community through a blog post, open-source contribution, tech talks etc
