Within the Experience Platform (XP) org, our goal is to unify how teams build new experiences, share common capabilities, and explore new solutions to scale innovation across both sides of our marketplace. Our design system team is made up of designers, content strategists, and UX engineers working together to unify and evolve Expedia Group’s platform!

We collaborate closely with product designers and partners across the organization to scale high-quality experiences across web and native platforms. As part of this team, you’ll be responsible for crafting the foundational patterns, components, documentation, tools, and educational materials to empower designers and engineers to build a world-class set of experiences.

What you’ll do:

Problem Definition and Product Strategy:

  • Bring a systematic point of view to problem-solving, while understanding how to isolate specific design issues and opportunities

  • Optimize and evolve designers’ workflows through defining processes, tools, etc.

Ideation and Visualization:

  • Demonstrate a solid understanding of common visual and interaction design principles and practices with the ability to sketch, wireframe, design flows, and prototype

Systems Thinking:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of established design patterns and technical constraints (web, iOS, and Android), while pushing and crafting new standards and guidelines

  • Consider customer experiences more broadly by default and understand how to push on constraints to harmonize structure, process, and technology

Communication and Presentation:

  • Evolve our system while developing relationships with partners (UX, Engineering, Product) to ensure the integrity of the experience and design system is upheld

  • Create routine, educational communication materials explaining design thinking & decision-making rationale to contributors and team members

Customer Centricity:

  • Design explorations and solutions which are passionate about customer needs and wants

Who you are:

  • Bachelor’s or Equivalent Experience; Human-Computer Interaction, User Experience or related Design field or relevant experience is applicable

  • Strong in 1 core skill, capable in 2 others including: Interaction/visual design, Information architecture, User research, Facilitation, Prototyping, Technical/Platform knowledge, UX writing, Illustration, and Motion Design

  • Demonstrated ability in responsive web, native mobile, product, graphic, interaction, or information design

  • Excellent core visual or interaction design skills with strong technical capabilities in prototyping, front-end presentation technology, and user-centered design methods

  • Demonstrated knowledge in mobile platforms (iOS and Android)

  • Excellent written and verbal skills to clearly communicate a strong rationale for how the system will work and evolve

  • A self-starter who collaborates with designers, engineers, product managers, marketing, and other teams to evangelize the design system

  • Understands complex concepts around modularity, reusability, progressive enhancement, browser fallbacks, and state and conditional logic

  • Deep understanding of how the technical back end and front-end fit together across channels

  • Nice-to-haves: previous design systems experience, familiarity with accessibility and localization, experience collaborating with internal partners to drive adoption
