Sr. Software Development Engineer (Frontend)

At Expedia, we believe in helping millions of travelers find that ideal destination, phenomenal place to stay and cool activity to make their trip a life experience. At the heart of this is Expedia’s Lodging Shopping team dedicated to solving problems for travelers on their journey. Our team is spread across the world with over 100 engineers, designers and product managers with diverse backgrounds working in unison to achieve a cohesive experience.

Our team is building a cutting-edge lodging shopping platform to allow customers to explore hotels, vacation rentals, resorts, and more in order to find their ultimate travel destination! We focus on the customer facing lodging search and detail pages and also provide performant ground breaking APIs used across the company. We are building a dynamic user experience while also keeping performance at the forefront – constantly enhancing the system which prices and sorts thousands of properties per second. Our entire infrastructure handles millions of requests per minute which requires scalability, reliability and high performance to ensure the best customer experience. Our platform serves customers on desktop, tablet, and mobile devices on Expedia sites and through a variety of partners.

What You'll Do

  • We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to design, build, and lead projects across our team and Expedia Group. You will take part in broader architecture discussions to shape how we make our systems even more resilient, flexible, and scalable to support new use cases and technologies.
  • Work closely with engineering, user experience, analytics and product teams to understand customer problems, research and collaborate on technical solutions, and thrive in creative endeavors to deliver solutions.
  • Architect and build robust and groundbreaking user experiences. Thoughtfully utilizing our UI technologies - React, Webpack, Typescript, GraphQL, NodeJS, and more - to craft a scalable and performant UI platform that will use shared and extensible components across our sites.
  • Find opportunities and drive solutions for bundle optimization, performance, and state management improvements.

Who You Are

  • You have 7+ years of proven experience, during which you’ve designed and built scalable, robust, and fault-tolerant technical solutions end-to-end.
  • You thrive in the details of front-end development - having experience developing sophisticated and scalable UIs using modern frameworks like React. Strong experience with NodeJS and familiarity with GraphQL, Typescript, and Webpack will be assets for this opportunity.
  • Experience creating inclusive products with an accessibility-first approach.
  • You have robust knowledge of cloud computing platforms such as Docker and Amazon Web Services (AWS) and how to utilize them in a CI/CD environment.
  • You succeed in leadership roles within a team. Your expertise and guidance will be pivotal for mentoring junior developers. Your leadership abilities will also shine when tackling large technology projects, designing architecture, and driving projects to completion.
  • You’ve shown good judgment about getting features to customers while still making sure that products are built in a sustainable, adaptive and responsible way. You welcome the opportunity to learn and improve.
  • Experience working in a full-stack space would be a bonus for this role. As a leader on the team you would be encouraged to contribute to discussions about our back-end APIs and architecture. Our back-end stack utilizes Java, Kotlin, Spring, REST, and gRPC.
