Software Development Engineer II

Hotwire is looking for a savvy Software Development Engineer to work with a group of spirited engineers, architects, designers and product experts to build new and innovative features for our travel platform.

As a Software Development Engineer you will be responsible for prototype, design and implementation of various technical capabilities in collaboration with teammates as well as maintaining high coding standards complete with unit & integration tests.

In order to have a successful business, you have to acquire, engage, and retain customers. Retention team’s mission is to make sure new and returning customers have a reason to come back.  We are about collecting, managing, and viewing trip information – and setting up the systems that make those activities possible. We have a modern stack with react on the frontend and microservices that are dockerised in AWS.

What you'll do:

  • You will be responsible for leading, designing, building, testing, releasing and supporting features for User profile and loyalty platforms.
  • Maintain high standards of code quality and unit test coverage with timeliness of delivery, innovation and leadership skills.
  • By now, you would have built and supported applications which are interactive, performant, and at scale.
  • Participate in resolution of production issues and develop solutions to prevent future issues from happening again
  • Work with UX, Product Management and Operations teams in an agile environment.
  • Experience playing key roles in technical designs, mentoring junior developers and helping to drive engineering maturity
  • Problem solver and an excellent coder with experienced in delivering sophisticated solutions, you have worked on enterprise applications and have helped operationalize it
  • Contribute to our next generation API platform by designing, deploying and battle testing domain driven GraphQL APIs for internal and external usage.


Who you are-You are fitl if you have

  • 5+ years of relevant software development experience preferably in e-commerce
  • BS or MS in Computer Science or related field
  • Working knowledge of Agile/SCRUM Software methodologies (scrum, XP).
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure in a dynamic environment
  • Excellent verbal and written skills with problem solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Experience with testing practices, artifact creation and user acceptance testing.
  • Experience with modern languages such as Java, Scala, Python.
  • Proficient with data structures, algorithms and systems architecture.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins/Chef) is a must.
  • Knowledge of various software development technologies and frameworks such as JavaScript, JSON, XML
  • General understanding of databases, SQL, No SQL and ORMs.
  • Solid understanding of Object Oriented Programming concepts, data structure, algorithms, and system level programming (including multi-threaded programming)
  • Bias for action, data driven decisions, collaboration and "test and learn" practices.
  • Required technologies: Java, React, Redux, CSS/Sass, GraphQL, Javascript, Node.js.
  • Recommended: AWS, Docker, Jenkins, Splunk, gRPC, Kotlin.
