Director, Hotels.com Global Communications

We are seeking a rock-star Director, Hotels.com Global Communications (aka Public Relations and Social Media), who will be the leader on all PR/Social/External Relations activities for Hotels.com worldwide. This person will be responsible for developing, executing, and measuring the global Hotels.com PR strategy (both consumer and corporate), social media strategy, overseeing the PR and social budget, leading all PR and social agencies engagements across the globe, and leading a global team located in several different offices.
He/she will be responsible for building the Hotels.com brand and driving profitable growth through a fully coordinated communications plan including media outreach, press releases, strategic media partner cultivation, social media, and effective travel industry content integration. This person will also lead PR and executive profiling for executives within Hotels.com and serve as the primary representative to the Expedia Group Communications Council.
The Director, Hotels.com Global Communications will be responsible for providing strategic, creative and logistical leadership, and for leading execution of public relations, media relations and industry relations for Hotels.com. This leader will represent Hotels.com externally on a day-to-day basis with the media representing the company in print, online, and broadcast media interviews. This highly visible position requires considerable integration across various departments, outside partners and vendors. This leader will collaborate extensively across the Hotels.com business unit and with key groups across Expedia Group to ensure our communication objectives are met. The Director, Hotels.com Global Communications will report to the Vice President Global Brand, Hotels.com.
What you’ll do:
Develop and implement global communications strategies and plans that support Hotels.com key pillars, including tailoring needs by region (North America, Europe, Asia, Latin America)
Project-manage consumer communications initiatives and projects from development to release
Lead all ongoing PR and social efforts for Hotels.com, e.g. pop-up hotel rooms, Chinese International Travel Monitor, select activation of sponsorships, and ensure continual innovation with new efforts to attract positive media and consumer attention
Regularly interact with the media, including serving as a spokesperson for online, print, radio and television interviews, or positioning members of the leadership team to do so
Collaborate with, and support, broader Marketing organization (including mobile, loyalty, CRM, product, brand marketing, local markets and merchandising teams amongst others) in broader initiatives
Serve as guardian of Hotels.com brand and corporate reputation in the public domain
Monitor and track programs against business goals to gauge the success of efforts
Manage public relations agencies, including regular evaluation of agencies and leading agency search processes as needed
Collaborate with global PR team on development /integration of global PR strategy and execution, and on global PR programs and roadmap
Lead team (currently team of nine) located in Europe, Asia and North America
Serve on the Hotels.com Brand Leadership Team (BLT), steering overall direction for all things brand marketing (alongside leaders from brand strategy, measurement, creative, sponsorships, paid media and loyalty)
Serve on the Expedia Group Communications Council, along with Communications leaders from all other divisions and Brands across Expedia Group
Serve as “station chief” for Brand organization in London office, providing oversight for employee engagement and well-being of other London-based employees
Who you are:
Extensive PR and/or social experience in a corporate or agency environment; consumer product and/or travel industry experience preferred
Experience working on a global Comms team, with demonstrated skills across multiple regions such as North America, Europe, Asia or Latin America
Outstanding communication skills a must; both verbal and written
Consistent record to collaborate across a wide variety of teams, functions and leadership styles
Demonstrated results in working with and leading the thinking of senior management required
Comfortable with fast-paced working environments and tight turnarounds required
Media spokesperson experience required
Media relations experience required; journalist references appreciated
Issues/crisis management experience required
Social media experience required
Extensive experience in a consumer marketing driven business unit/company required
Experience using public relations as a core tactic within a brand marketing environment required
Strategic problem solver with outstanding communications skills
A diplomatic, relationship builder with strong professional presence and demonstrated ability to influence others
Experience as trusted, sage advisor to counsel executives regarding message content and delivery in public forums
Excellent writing, communications, project management and interpersonal skills
Ability to handle changing requirements, as well as multiple overlapping projects at one time
Experience running public relations agency relationships
Superior attention to detail
Sense of humour required (we are a fun, irreverent brand!)
Bachelor’s degree, Communications or related field preferred
