Engineering Manager

The Expedia Tagging and Taxonomy Team is seeking a creative, intellectually curious, motivated Software Engineering Manager. Tagging and Taxonomy are foundational technical components of Expedia Marketing infrastructure that allow both detailed measurement of marketing campaigns and large-scale data gathering to occur across all Expedia Marketing channels. These tools allow Expedia to efficiently find new customers through Search Engine Marketing, Metasearch, Affiliate relationships, etc. We process huge data sets and output this data for both real-time purposes and for analytics purposes.

As an Engineering Manager, you will play a key role in shaping and executing the vision for these foundational Marketing components. You will collaborate with a hard-working group of product managers, architects, and engineers to deliver the best possible experience for agents and customers. You will provide technical leadership for a global, dynamic, and growing engineering organization.

What you’ll do:

  • Coaching and mentoring an incredible, hardworking team around their goals, delivery, and career development
  • You will champion a balanced and collaborative workgroup across teams
  • You will build a team of robust software engineers utilizing your experience recruiting, screening, and interviewing
  • You will ensure your team delivers high-quality solutions on time, with technical integrity and stability, and continuously innovates to improve engineering efficiency
  • You will drive the evolution of design patterns with industry standards and new technologies, to improve quality and system performance
  • You will participate in and lead design and architecture reviews, handle production incidents and perform code reviews
  • You will work closely with teams from engineering, program management, operations, , and product management, to build a roadmap and deliver

Who you are:

  • MS/BS degree in Computer Science or related technical field, or equivalent professional experience
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience leading development teams, combined with a minimum of 8 years of hands-on experience in software engineering
  • Proven ability to grow, develop, mentor, and empower agile teams, while collaborating with partner and engineering teams
  • Experience delivering production-quality high-scale web applications in a professional software engineering role
  • Strong Computer Science fundamentals in object-oriented design, data structure, algorithm design, problem solving, and complexity analysis
  • Strong experience with Object Oriented coding (e.g., Java), AWS technologies, client / server architecture, etc.
  • Ability to comfortably work in a fast-paced environment, requiring strong oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent time management, resource management, and planning skills, with a proven ability to estimate, schedule, lead, and track multiple concurrent projects. Ability to actively identify upcoming risks, issues, and bottlenecks and resolve issues that sometimes cross departmental boundaries.
