Our team is looking for a technically savvy, results oriented Sr. Software Development Engineer to work with a group of like-minded software professionals, designers, architects and product specialists to help build new and innovative features for our travel platform. As a Sr. SDE on the Lodging team you will be responsible for the design and delivery of initiatives that improve/expand the system architecture, drive efficiency, automation and build technically sound solutions to sophisticated problems. This individual will play an active role in all aspects of Agile software development.

About this opportunity

We are looking for forward-thinking folks with grand ideas and even greater energy. We live in the umbrella of a top 100 company, but we’re AGILE and move quickly, constantly learning.

We offer:

  • A compelling technology stack – Java, Node, Python, Docker, AWS, a number of prototyping/data science languages among others
  • Almost uninhibited access to customers – move from ideation to construction to production rapidly; gauge customer reaction and then adapt.
  • AUTONOMY – you’ll live and play in a tight-knit team environment where you’ll be measured by the enjoyment you bring to others – your co-workers and customers – and not by bug count or algorithmic purity. You’ll see a problem and will work unfettered to resolve it.

What you will do:

  • Drive and contribute to the technology road map
  • Guide in the technical design efforts of various initiatives, ensuring the system design meets scalability and performance requirements
  • Lead and participate in the design and implementation (e.g., coding, testing, debugging) effort.
  • Stay up to date on emerging technologies and champion their adoption.
  • Present technical issues and their business impact to management
  • Work with multi-functional teams to research and resolve production issues
  • Communicate complex technical solutions to a variety of business partners
  • Actively mentor peers and other software engineers

Who you are:

  • BS and/or MS in Computer Science.
  • 7+ years delivering critical, high-demand web systems across all parts of the stack utilizing microservices and REST.
  • Solid experience with OO design and development using Java
  • Experience with the following technologies: Spring Framework, REST APIs, Kafka, Dropwizard/Spring Boot, SQL/NoSQL, AWS and Docker
  • Experience with CI/CD frameworks
  • Recent experience building highly scalable enterprise systems
  • Experience at other fast-paced Internet companies, especially Travel companies, is a big plus

But You Don’t Have All of These Skills?

  • We believe talent trumps skills so don’t take the above checklist as gospel. The hunger to grow and the passion to learn are a better indicator of future success.

Why join us:

Expedia Group recognizes our success is dependent on the success of our people. We are the world's travel platform, made up of the most knowledgeable, passionate, and creative people in our business. Our brands recognize the power of travel to break down barriers and make people's lives better – that responsibility inspires us to be the place where exceptional people want to do their best work, and to provide them the tools to do so.

Whether you're applying to work in engineering or customer support, marketing or lodging supply, at Expedia Group we act as one team, working towards a common goal; to bring the world within reach. We relentlessly strive for better, but not at the cost of the customer. We act with humility and optimism, respecting ideas big and small. We value diversity and voices of all volumes. We are a global organization but keep our feet on the ground so we can act fast and stay simple. Our teams also have the chance to give back on a local level and make a difference through our corporate social responsibility program, Expedia Cares.
