Market Insights Manager - UK

Expedia Group are hiring a UK Market Insights Manager for all our key brands including Expedia, Hotels.com, Vrbo and HomeAway, reporting to the Director EMEA Market Insights. 

The role is to be the custodian of traveller empathy for UK travelers, and distill actionable take-aways to the rest of Expedia Group teams.   Not all markets are the same, the way we live and travel is different across markets around the world, therefore it is key that we understand local customers to achieve local relevance and global scale.

The Insights team is part of Retail Local Markets (RLM) and sits within the Marketing Organisation. The role of RLM is to empower the business to win locally.  Through leading geographic prioritization, market activation levers and local market and customer insight shared with our Expedia Group brands.  The RLM team partners with other global teams including Brand, Customer Marketing, Supply and Product, on select opportunities and key outcomes.

What you’ll do:

  • Generate customer (traveller), partner (supplier), market & competitor insights to drive the UK agenda
  • Monitor the macro environment, including market trends and the tracking of local competitor sets
  • Create actionable insights in the form of hypothesis and problem statements, that inform activations and strategies for the market
  • Define research priorities; monitor trends and quality/availability of supply
  • Analyse and model data and produce ready to deploy insights with actionable recommendations
  • Create insight reports for the UK that are scalable across other EMEA markets and other Global regions
  • Define supply needs to meet traveller requirements for all lines of business incl. flights, accommodation (hotels/holiday rentals), packages, car hire, activities
  • Build and maintain a local events calendar
  • Localise campaigns created by the global brand and customer marketing teams, ensuring that the language, tone and content meet the local traveller sentiment
  • Provide product analysis based on use cases for local travellers, feeding the global product organisation with requirements for locally relevant improvements, tools and features

Who you are:

  • You have an analytical mind, demonstrated strong attention to detail, ability to analyse customer data
  • You have know-how of using Excel, Google Analytics and Tableau (SQL skills are a plus)
  • You can simplify by drawing clear insights and are able to highlight the key items to provide to relevant stakeholders
  • Ability to think strategically, to sequence and to prioritize actions to drive business results
  • You are creative and innovative thinker with a “can do” attitude, and a bias for action
  • The ability to work with cross-functional teams to drive execution against project achievements and deliverables
  • You put yourself in the shoes of customers
  • Strong interpersonal and influencing skills
  • You are able to tell and story and relate data insights to the business
  • You have a positive attitude and assume positive intent
  • You are able to think big and see the big picture and also think small and analyse specific problem statements
