Business Controller

Are you passionate about building professional relationships with business partners whilst negotiating, solving finance related queries? Can you analyze, interpret, identify root causes and find solutions to complex problems?  Are you able to work with a Global cross functional team, to standardize and improve our Expedia Group Financial Operations processes? Are you motivated and able to Identify opportunities, and formulate achievable initiatives, whilst obtaining business agreement?

The business controller will act as a facilitator for reporting, ongoing innovations in Finance operations, and broadly identifying the best ways of working across the organization. You will relentlessly identify and evaluate key strategic trends, opportunities and risk with focus on how we can drive effectiveness across the Finance Operations organization and the broader Expedia Group.

The Business controller will own the analysis of end to end operational performance of our teams and assist leadership with identifying the drivers of operational performance and provide supporting analysis for actions to remediate issues and drive continuous improvement globally.

What you will do:

  • Design and implement sustainable and scalable reporting and analytic solutions
  • Leverage data available to help improve our collective understanding of our strategic Finance Operations
  • Work on complex, cross-functional projects related to operational enhancement, implementation and business investment (e.g. support automation of manual efforts)
  • Deliver results on multiple initiatives whilst driving cross-functional groups to decisions on strategically important questions
  • Communicate to Global product and reporting teams, to translate finance problems/tech issues into understandable finance language for decision making (bridge gap between departments)
  • Identify opportunities, prioritize, pitch and sell ideas and/or business cases with passion; win stakeholder support and cross-function approvals
  • Own Business metrics/feedback loop reviews, facilitate global/regional management to performance accountability and execution of remediation
  • Be an integral part of the team and ensuring key strategic initiatives achieve their full effect
  • Train and develop key staff to support standardized reporting, as well as knowledge to review/understand and draw data-driven conclusions
  • Evaluate aged debt to identify and quantify risks of non-payment, whilst opportunity to adjust collection strategy
  • Partner with the wider EGP to create and review documents, and train other areas of the business
  • Example of reporting skills/activities expected:
    • Identify and extract data using complex SQL queries, and consolidate into useable data for analysis/reporting for business decisions
    • Design and standardize relevant financial performance reports
    • Translate an idea/opportunity from large data sources and translate findings all way to business case, built on data/facts (ROI)
    • Develop a credit rating methodology leveraging operational data available
    • Identify enhancements (advise functionality requirements/testing etc.)
    • Collaborate with key stakeholders as Business Intelligence/Data Science/Business Development-Strategic Initiative

The Finance Operations team forms part of Expedia Group's e-Commerce Platform division (eCP).

Who you are:

  • 5+ year proven experience in Financial Operations in Business Analysis, Analytics, Consulting and/or Project Management
  • BA/BS (or equivalent) in related field or applicable experience
  • Advanced computer skills including; MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Experience with front-end reporting tools such as Tableau and Qliksense or other reporting tools
  • Strong database query (TSQL) abilities and experience, with data modeling, and data warehousing a plus
  • Project Management experience; Agile and Waterfall methodologies a plus
  • Previous experience in coaching and mentoring
  • Superior problem-solving skills, critical thinker, and experienced in analyzing and validating large complex datasets
  • Highly motivated, proactive, target-driven individual with strong communication skills and comfortable pushing and driving change in a collaborative manner. As part of a team, or autonomously
  • Curious, open-minded, inventive of future opportunities, ability to identify improvement opportunities, whilst understanding the big picture/small detail
  • Flexible, and able adapt to a changing Global business; including different time zones
  • Able to travel as business requires
  • Have the right to work in the Netherlands
