Senior Engineer, Vrbo Enterprise Platform

The Vrbo Enterprise Platform is responsible for development and delivery of solutions that cater to the Global Accounting, Finance, Partner Success and Customer Experience teams.

What You'll Do:

  • Develop a scalable, reliable and secure data platform that will serve Expedia’s financial teams
  • Develop fast, highly available solutions in an event-driven, microservices programming model
  • Build next generation analytics platform for eCommerce financial data
  • Responsibilities:
  • Design and Implement back end solutions, APIs from scratch
  • Own new features from design to production release
  • Dedicated to delivering tested and optimized high performance code, in a platform-first mindset
  • Work with other Developers, Analysts and Admins in an Agile environment
  • Grow a performant production environment in a way that makes the system increasingly reliable
  • Showcase your work on our tech blog and internal & external conferences
  • Participate in resolution of production issues and lead efforts toward solutions

Experience and Qualification:

  • BS or MS in Computer Science or equivalent experience
  • 6+ years overall development experience (Java experience strongly preferred)
  • Results oriented individual with a consistent record of delivering on your estimates with minimal guidance
  • Leads by example in all aspects of software development - simple, elegant, scalable, well tested, documented
  • Strong software development skills (configuration management, issue tracking, estimation, Agile/Scrum)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent critical thinking skills
  • Strong technical proficiency in Java, JSON/XML, Web Services and object-oriented design, Lambda / Kafka /Scala
  • Java ecosystem of tools including automated build and continuous integration (Git, Gradle, Maven, Jenkins, Docker etc.)


  • Experience working with AWS/Cloud infrastructure, Terraform etc.
  • Experience working with a few of the following technologies: Splunk, Consul, DataDog, Mesos/Marathon, Nomad, Spark/Flink, Storm, Elasticsearch, Apache Cassandra, Vault
  • Experience extending Oracle E-Business Suite
