User Interface Engineer II (JavaScript)

Hotels.com is redesigning and re-platforming its entire UI stack and we're looking for someone to join us on the journey to become active part of the Checkout pillar and accelerate delivery of the next generation of our frontend platform. On the Checkout pages we're in a delightful position to make the bookings real and serve our customers' various needs through different payments, discounts and many further auxiliary features. We're looking for a JavaScript Engineer who's eager to dive into this interesting domain, open to understand the complex mechanisms, while passionate about building robust, blazingly fast software as well as engaging customer experiences. What you'll do:

As a UI Engineer in the Checkout team, you will collaborate with experienced software engineers to drive improvements to our technology, design and develop new services and software solutions, and build and track metrics to ensure high quality results. You will work with business partners, leadership and other software developers, influence product vision and design of our systems. We guarantee you’ll learn a lot and won't be bored!

You’ll be responsible for:

  • writing code — Write clean and modularized code base using Single Responsibility principle - using CommonJS module pattern and stateless functional approach where it is possible

  • working on an observable (in-house) central state store similar to Mobx, Vuex

  • actively participate in the powerful and cooperative review processes for code quality and optimization – we have 98% coverage of pure unit tests and about 60% coverage of functional tests with Puppeteer

  • maintaining a standalone, independent working environment for UIEs – our work is based on JSON API contracts, we work collaboratively with our back-end developers to shape this API, while we are capable to work independently from each other thanks to the elegant separation via mock data

  • releasing into production every day - release process takes about 1 hour (including build time) - it's a one-click process via pipeline (Continuous Integration)

  • looking for ways to continuously improve through asking and providing feedback

  • being part of a multi-functional team engaging with business partners to flesh out and deliver requirements from inception to production in an agile manner

  • Participate in and drive key architectural decisions that’ll influence the evolution of the Hotels.com UI platform. Ensuring that performance, reliability, accessibility and scalability are first class citizens in the development process.

  • Collaborate with teams across the organisation, championing and representing the frontend development team.

  • Provide technical leadership to your fellow engineers and be a mentor to junior members of the team. Engaging to evolve and champion development standards and best practices.

Technologies we use:

·       core JavaScript (EcmaScript 6+), Mocha, Sinon, Chai, Node.js, Grunt, Puppeteer

  • We are in a grand transition to make our site work as a PWA via React, MobX, Jest, GraphQL

·       HTML5, CSS3, SASS

·       AWS, Docker, Git (with GitHub enterprise)

Who you are:

·       5+ years of experience developing and delivering highly available enterprise web applications in any frontend technology.

·       Strong core JavaScript (EcmaScript 6+) skills with decent site building skills (HTML + CSS)

·  React, Node.js and GraphQL experience desirable.

·       Excellent communication skills with ability to work well across multiple teams and disciplines.

·       Passionate problem solver with a focus on high quality user experience and who takes on challenges with a positive attitude.

·       Cross-browser development & compatibility experience
