About the position:

You will be part of EPS Data Technology leading the new Business Intelligence development team, working directly with Data Product, Data Platform and Data Engineering teams distributed across London (UK), Madrid (SP), Springfield (MO), Chicago (IL) and Bellevue (WA).

This role is a fantastic opportunity to help shape business analytics solutions for our Partners, Analytics, Finance, and Sales teams.

You will make the role successful by applying your engineering, business intelligence, analytics, and communication background. You'll have the opportunity to take it to the next level, continue growing and learning, not only as a technologist but also as people leader too, while doing what you are most passionate and proud.

Your responsibilities:

  • Build a high performing multi-functional team of software engineers, data engineers, and business intelligence developers.
  • You own the technology direction for business intelligence applications, analytics services for partners, and sales business functions.
  • Define and communicate high engineering standards and BI development practices, ensuring design and architecture consistency.
  • Work closely with the Data Product team on proof of concepts, requirements breakdown, and roadmap planning.
  • Apply the right engineering practices when managing a significant amount of data in a real-time and batch.
  • Design data models and API's for sub-second data fetching (e.g., aggregated, time-series or on its' granular level).
  • Promote collaboration and guide the execution of entire BI initiatives or components of larger projects from start to finish.
  • Seek opportunities to bring advanced analytical techniques and solutions to the business intelligence space.
  • Architect and design solutions, ensuring clear documentation, and a high level of communication.
  • You'll communicate concise information at all levels of the organization
  • Formulate new and creative ways of building data relationships in a highly matrixed systems landscape.
  • You promote excellence and forward-thinking engineering, using technical writing to exposure your team to a broader technical population inside and outside Expedia.
  • Set up teams through hiring and people growth while balancing your ownership workload trough delegation, while defining and reviewing individual and team goals (OKRs).
  • You act as a servant leader, listen, influencing while bringing recognition to the group.
  • You lead on 'what' and 'how' and strive to take the best out of the people that work with you.

Your background:

  • You are a leader in data, software development, and intelligent business ecosystem.
  • You have proven record of people management, coaching, and mentoring.
  • You have demonstrated a good record of managing data at scale.
  • You have experience building visualizations and reporting with tools such as Tableau, Business Objects with experience using statistical software.
  • You're hands-on coding with significant experience in one or more key software languages (e.g., Python, Scala, Java, Javascript).
  • You know how to design data-models, normalized, and un-normalized data structures.
  • You know about Hadoop, Hive, Presto, and Spark ecosystems.
  • Shown rigor in high code quality, automated testing, and engineering principles.
  • You've excellent AWS services and architecture experience demonstrated by the use of native cloud solutions (e.g., S3, DynamoDB, Elasticsearch, Redis, Lambda, and Containers).
  • You've experience in SQL and advanced data modeling skills.
  • You know how to design and build restful APIs, knowledge of GraphQL is a plus.
  • Strong analytical/business modeling skills with the ability to convert raw data into actionable reporting and scalable data architectures.
  • Experience with Tableau, QlikView, Hadoop, Teradata, and Business Objects a plus.
  • Ensure the reports and dashboards are timely, consistent, accurate, and complete.
  • You've experienced with agile development methodologies including Scrum and Kanban, and you'll thrive working in an agile environment.
